Thorns
STORY
"Once upon a time, a mage circle by the name of Root defended their lands from the devils beyond. They feared their own doom, so they made the Thorns, powerful mana focuses that could destroy anything. Nothing came for centuries, these same mages of the root began to infight for who knows why. Then came the Thorn Lord. He destroyed the suprised circle, using their weapon against them. This was the start of the Age of Thorns."
OVERVIEW
A retro RPG that slightly holds the hand of the player as they explore the "vast" "open" "world" of Thorns, fighting in turn-based combat against varied foes and buying gear from the strangely housed NPCs.
COMBAT (INSPIRED BY DRAGON QUEST)
The player has 2 attacks (or 3 at a higher level), conditional to the player's weapon. These weapons vary from the classic swords to the unusual whips. No matter what, though, the player always has a 4th option, rest, letting them recover all their lost stamina and making them see the enemy's ability and resistances.
EXPLORATION (INSPIRED BY LEGEND OF ZELDA)
The player can go to any place in the world from start, being only limited by their skill and/or level. There are 7 areas, containing various enemies, and various secrets that one might discover by moving against walls.
TRADE (INSPIRED BY CAPITALISM)
Enemies drop gold, and so do pouches. Gold can then be used to buy weapons, armor and throwables from NPCs with question marks on their heads.
RETRO POLISH
The crunch, the juice. All sounds have been made in FamiStudio, a true retro sound machine. All the animations have been made using tweens from godot's gdscript. All the music by Josh Penn-Pierson, and half the sprites from a 1-bit spriteset by Pierre Vandermaesen.
UNDER "DEVELOPMENT"
This project is feature complete, bug free (hopefully), and polished, BUT, the balancing hasn't been severely looked at, so I hope that players can understand this and help me in making this an even more fun game. The early section from levels 1-5 is the exact way I want it to be, all other values may change.
